Science fiction or near reality? Recently interviewed by RTL on the possibility in 5 years of taking off from France and being at New York in less than an hour, Gwynne Shotwell, the president of Space X answered in the affirmative.

30-minute flights versus 8 hours by plane

For this, the company founded by Elon Musk intends to develop a rocket which, launched at 27,000 kilometers per hour, would link Paris to the Big Apple in 30 minutes compared to around 8 hours for an airplane currently.

“It’s definitely a possibility for our Starship rocket. For the moment, we are concentrating on the moon, Mars but also on flights from one point to another on the Earth, ”explains the manager to RTL.

Flights that would not take place from Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle or Orly airports but in specially designed places. “The company wants to launch its first flights from platforms at sea, but this should not last long”, indicates the radio.

Space X is also considering Los Angeles/Shanghai in 36 minutes or Sydney/Zurich in 50 minutes.
