A pet license soon to be compulsory in Wallonia: the circular will arrive “in the coming days”

Problem: the terms of this measure have not yet reached the municipalities, shelters and other pet shops, raised, Wednesday, in plenary session of the Walloon parliament, the deputies Jacqueline Galant (MR) and André Antoine (Les Engagés). “The circular was signed this week. It will arrive in the very next few days so that the measure can be operationalized” in time, replied the Walloon Minister of Animal Welfare, Céline Tellier (Ecolo).

“This reform has been discussed with the Union of Towns and Municipalities of Wallonia, with shelters and pet stores. It will make it possible to implement this detention permit, the objective of which is twofold: to combat the impunity of those who have already mistreated animals and offer a period of reflection – the time to obtain the extract from the central file from the municipality – in order to avoid impulse purchases”, recalled Minister Tellier.

“This is an important file which must materialize in a clear way”, she added without however managing to convince André Antoine. “It would have been preferable to postpone the entry into force of this measure to raise awareness among the various players and to propose a complete package with concrete methods of application”, estimated the centrist deputy.
