One dreams of colonizing Mars, the other of putting industries into orbit. The frantic competition between the two billionaires is the subject of “Musk vs Bezos, the new star wars”, a documentary by Agnès Hubschman available for replay. She enlightens us.
Of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, respectively first and third fortunes in the world, we know the megalomaniac and planetary ambitions. The hubris also extends beyond the atmosphere, since the two tycoons are waging war – commercial – in space. Insatiable appetite, delirious megalomania, industrialized secrecy, how far will they go in the civilizational mission with which they seem invested? Agnès Hubschman, who devotes a documentary to them available for replay until September, gives some keys to understanding.
Why this film devoted to the attraction of space with Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos?
After a film about the Arctic (Arctic, the polar war, in 2020), I was looking for another immaculate place, the object of an intense confrontation. I came up with the idea of a film on space competition: it’s a closed, technical environment, difficult to tell. I wanted to put it into perspective through these two emblematic characters, and trace the thread to find out how they came to embody the revival of the American space conquest. If they were both driven by childhood dreams, their paths are very different.
