Chocolatine or pain au chocolat? Science closes the debate

A linguist has produced a map in which each region is associated with the formula most used by its inhabitants. One of the two terms is used much more than the other.

For years, the chocolatine VS pain au chocolat debate has stirred the web, so much so that the fight has become a joke on social networks. When renaming the new regions, some had proposed calling Occitania “Chocolatine”, during the presidential election some had slipped “Chocolatine” ballots into the ballot box… Internet users are not short of ideas.

Today it is thanks to a survey based on the responses of several thousand French people that the debate could be closed. Mathieu Avanzi, linguist specializing in regional French at the Catholic University of Louvain, has produced a map in which each region is associated with the formula most used by its inhabitants. One conclusion emerges from this: the victory of pain au chocolat is overwhelming.
