The searches carried out since the beginning of the week as part of an investigation targeting Bahrain-Victorious have resulted in seizures of “electronic equipment (telephones, computers, hard drives) and medicines, the nature and origin of which remain undetermined or whose delivery is subject to prescription, “said the Marseille prosecutor’s office on Thursday.
While the team had itself communicated on the searches which took place at the beginning of the week at the homes of several runners and Thursday morning, the day before the start of the Tour de France, at the hotel in Copenhagen where the cycling team is staying , no seizures had been reported. French justice had for its part not communicated since Monday.
Operation in seven countries
The Marseille public prosecutor’s office did so on Thursday evening, to report seizures, therefore, and to specify the operations carried out within the framework of the investigation opened since 2021 for “violations of the legislation on doping and poisonous substances”.
“Between June 27 and 30, 2022, international judicial and police cooperation action was carried out jointly in Italy, Spain, Belgium, Poland, Slovenia, Croatia and Denmark”specified the Marseille public prosecutor’s office, specifying that the searches had been carried out at the homes of the manager, three riders, the osteopath and a team doctor, as well as at the headquarters of the company Winning SRL, owner of the team, and at the hotel in Copenhagen.
Last year, this same Bahrain-Victorious formation had already been raided by the OCLAESP brigade in a hotel in Pau during the Tour de France, as part of the preliminary investigation opened by the Marseille prosecutor’s office.
Bahrain-Victorious will be taken on the Tour de France 2022 by the Slovenian Matej Mohoric, the Belgian Dylan Teuns or the Italian Damiano Caruso, among others.
