Elon Musk, the richest man in the world and owner of Tesla, is well known for his sometimes surprising sound bites on social media. Among these, the idea of having a hamburger delivered and watching a movie outdoors while your Tesla charges seemed, certainly, realistic, but absurd. The American company, however, did not let go.
After filing an initial application for a building permit for “a restaurant and a Supercharger station” in Santa Monica, Elon Musk finally moved his project to Hollywood for reasons of local regulations.
Plans filed with the city last month offer a first look at what the automaker intends to build. Namely, a two-story semi-circular restaurant, with 29 Superchargers and two cinema screens.
It’s hard to really know the final shape of the project, but some architects like Ed Howard have made renderings from these plans, enough to give us an idea of what this Tesla drive-in could look like:

Many liberties were taken, but all the plans seem respected with a restaurant bar on two levels, and two cinema screens overlooking the parking lot which would accommodate the 29 Superchargers. Tesla wants the site to be operational 24 hours a day, but local laws would limit showings to 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The brand has obviously not revealed any calendar, but it is very likely that this kind of place will exist. In Europe, Audi is focusing on the development of its Charging Hubs, spaces where customers can relax or eat while their vehicles are charging.
