Mess fire in Perpignan: several shops and restaurants closed until further notice

Two days after the tragedy, all the actors concerned remain fully mobilized. The firefighters from SDIS 66 were still there, monday august 29in order to monitor the remaining hot spots within the ruins of the building, where the ceiling, the floor or even the beams did not resist. Around 4 p.m., a major resumption of the fire was also reported.

Even more disturbing, major cracks appeared on the exterior facades of the building, confirming an imminent danger: the risk of collapse of the building, built in 1844, is indeed real.

When the fire is extinguished, a operation will be carried out on the weakened cornice, which will be removed and then replaced by metal strapping, in order to limit the risk of the structure collapsing. The latter was scheduled for Monday but had to be postponed.

Several businesses closed until further notice

In the meantime, an important security device has been put in place this weekend. eight families have also been relocated. The town hall of Perpignan also called a meeting with neighboring traders on Monday morning.

At the end of the latter, the authorities announced the closing of several shops in the hypercentre, confirms Pierre-Olivier Barbé, president of bars, cafes and night trades in UMIH 66, joined by Perpignan news. The town hall of Perpignan specifies that this closure order was taken in order to guarantee the safety of the public.

About ten of shops and restaurants are concerned. Among them, four addresses are closed until further notice : the wine and tapas bar At Henry’s, the italian restaurant Mistinguett’, the meat restaurant the Divine or even the Breton creperie. These are the establishments closest to the building damaged by the flames.

Note that several other addresses on Rue des Fabrications Couvertes are also affected by this closure: the tapas bar The lips, Restaurant Guapo or the essential Cansa Sansa. But for these three more distant places, the hope of a “rapid reopening” is possible when the first security operations have been completed.

“The hour is at its worst. We will come back stronger” said the Mistinguett’ team on its social networks. The Divil is providing full support to the Mess and all other closed businesses.
