A 44-year-old woman appeared on Monday June 27, 2022 before the correctional court of Albertville (Savoie) for “voluntary abandonment of a domestic animal, tamed or captive”. 111 cats lived with her in her house in Saint-Julien-Montdenis (Savoie) in deplorable sanitary conditions. Six months in prison were required against the defendant, reports The Dauphine Libere. Judgment is scheduled for July 11, 2022.
A pestilential smell
The dozens of felines had been discovered in the suspect by the gendarmes and the veterinary services, warned by two associations for the protection of cats. The workers had noticed a pestilential smell of urine and excrement in the dark rooms where the animals were confined. They had also found seven corpses of felines in a freezer, tell our colleagues.
The defendant would have frantically multiplied the adoptions of cats without taking into account their needs and the environment she offered them. Her former companion felt that the forty-year-old was trying to fill an emotional void, indicates the local daily. The Savoyard for her part denied any mistreatment, explaining that her objective was to create an association and to have the felines adopted.
