San Francisco, August 27 (IANS) Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Saturday criticized some environmentalists for being “anti-human” when it comes to increasing nuclear power generation that could replace fossil fuels in the future.
In a tweet, Musk said countries should increase nuclear power production.
“It’s senseless from a national security perspective and bad for the environment to shut them down,” Musk said.
A Twitter follower responded, saying nuclear is clean, efficient and could replace fossil fuels entirely if adopted, but that’s not happening “because the so-called environmentalists are not in favor of it.” clean energy, they are anti-human”.
Musk posted: “Some (environmentalists) are indeed unfortunately anti-human”.
A clean energy advocate, he has repeatedly said it is a mistake to stigmatize nuclear power, especially as renewables like solar and batteries continue to ramp up.
In July this year, he said, “Actually, I’m also pro-nuclear.”
“I think nuclear has a bad reputation. People shouldn’t shut down nuclear power plants, in my opinion, unless they’re in a place prone to natural disasters. In that case, you know you can’t just be like, ‘we’re just waiting for the real situation, but once in a century,'” he said during an interview on the ‘Getting Stoned’ podcast. .
“Like the Fukushima situation. Well, you know, there’s a lot of tsunamis and stuff, so it’s probably not great to have nuclear power where there are natural disasters. But for example, in places like France or Germany and many parts of the United States, there is really no significant risk of natural disasters that could affect nuclear power plants. So we shouldn’t shut them down in that case,” Musk had pointed out.
According to him, efforts to shut down nuclear power plants are “crazy” and “crazy”.
