The boss of SpaceX gives in. Saturday, October 15, Elon Musk finally announced that his firm will continue to finance the Starlink satellite Internet access network in Ukraine. A total reversal after having, the day before, called on the American government to take over. “Never mind… Even if Starlink still loses money and other companies receive billions of taxpayer dollars, we will continue to fund the Ukrainian government”the billionaire tweeted on Saturday.
On Friday, Elon Musk assured that SpaceX “could not continue to fund indefinitely the existing system and send thousands of additional terminals (…). This is not reasonnable”. In addition, according to the American news channel CNN, SpaceX would have sent a missive to the Pentagon last September, to indicate that it could no longer assume the costs of such a service offered to Ukraine. Over the next 12 months, SpaceX estimates such funding at $400 million.
