According to information reported by AS, Peruvian right-back Luis Advíncula announced on Monday evening that he was leaving the selection, after Peru’s defeat on penalties in the 2022 World Cup play-off match against Australia (0-0, 5 pens to 4). The 32-year-old defender who plays at Boca Juniors missed his attempt during the penalty shootout, hitting the post. After the meeting, he wrote a message on instagram to explain that he was leaving The Blanquirroja and he apologized to his country, before deleting the post.
“Today, I arrived here, I take a step aside in the selection. I don’t think I have the strength to get up. To my teammates, thank you very much and sorry. First, I apologize to my family and friends for the pain I have caused and to all of Peru, I am solely responsible for this debacle and my life will not be enough to excuse me”Advincula wrote after the meeting.
