“The most beautiful animals” of La Manche will parade at the Lessay fair

It is organized by this committee in association with the eight cattle breed associations of the department, the Chamber of Agriculture and Normandy Coast. Like previous organisations, the 27e edition will give pride of place to cattle breeds: 300 animals will be presented. “The animals will arrive on Thursday afternoon and the breeders will meet for a meal in the evening. »

120 selected animals

The serious things will start on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Charolais breed competition, followed at 11 o’clock by the Brown and Jersey breeds where the number of individuals is increasing; 26 animals are registered in these two breeds. In the afternoon, it will be the turn of Prim’Holstein breeds to enter the scene with the presentation of 91 animals.

The Norman breed will be in the spotlight throughout the day on Saturday. Out of 34 breeders, we note the participation of five new ones “including two youngsters for the first time”. 225 animals were registered, far more than the competition can accommodate. “We organized a tour to select 120 animals,” says Olivier Pibouin, Normande breed facilitator at the Chamber of Agriculture.

As is now traditional, the competitions of sheep, with 135 animals of Cotentin, Avranchin and Roussin breeds, will take place on Sunday, from 9 am. One of the highlights of this day will be the stockbreeders’ mass at 10 am, followed by a blessing of the animals.

At 3:30 p.m., we will find the animal parade with prize-giving, preceded at 2.30 p.m. by a presentation of thoroughbred horses Norman cob. The livestock festival will be held at the Sainte-Croix fair. It is open to the general public. This event is an opportunity to see “the most beautiful animals in the department”. The Lessay fair is a bit the Manche agricultural fair with the participation of a hundred breeders and 450 animals.
