UNUSUAL – But what was he doing there? A zebra surprised motorists at the A63 toll booth in Biriatou, in the Basque Country, on Friday August 26, report our colleagues from South West. The equine was spotted around 11 a.m. on the road, leading to some surreal scenes.
Several motorists filmed the zebra running between stationary cars, stuck in traffic jams. A journalist from Mail Picard was on a bus and tells South West : “He trotted past us three times. No one could catch him. Customs officers teamed up to capture him. They were panicked and running in all directions. »

“Everyone was at the window. The children were very excited. We forgot the traffic jams for a few minutes,” he added. The animal wandered around for about 30 minutes and did not disrupt traffic.
The zebra actually belonged to a man who had loaned it to a zoo for some time, the local daily said. When he escaped, the owner had just picked him up but obviously the animal was thirsty for freedom.
