Vinassan: a Zen spirit invites itself to Chez Pierrot

A veritable institution in the Narbonnais, the restaurant Chez Pierrot is changing its formula and reducing its sails. The establishment is now only accessible by rue de Mader.

Third generation at the head of the restaurant Chez Pierrot, Sandrine Nondédéo is writing a new page in the history of this family institution known throughout the Narbonnais.

For this new season, it has therefore decided to change a lot of things and drastically reduce the sail area from 800 to 500 seats. A decision carefully considered after two years of health crisis. “The Covid made me see things differently. And then it was so good to be less in the last two years”says the manager.

Indeed, this year, they will be only 55 to work against 95 before the pandemic. But it is not easy to change mentalities. “The first weekend some customers complained but you have to take it easy. There are more serious things“, puts Sandrine into perspective. Even if she has already reached 800 covers with 500 seats, now she wants people to come to her establishment for a moment of relaxation and to take the time to eat. “It is useless to have a big structure, I prefer to work on regularity”, she assures. As for his parents, Robert and Pierrette Rage, who still work by his side, they fully adhere to the new formula. “I am proud of my daughter’s work“, emphasizes Robert. So that her customers feel good under the big trees, she has completely redesigned her terrace.

Now in the center flows a small river bringing a touch of freshness and a Zen touch. The furniture has been completely changed. No more plastic tables, now make way for tables combining wood and iron, high or traditional according to taste, giving a more contemporary look to the place. Two huge wooden pergolas have been erected for better comfort in case of bad weather. More cozy relaxation areas for tapas aperitifs, one of the novelties of the season, have also been fitted out. For this, Sandrine Nondédéo called on local craftsmen. “I’m lucky to have had a great team to do everything.” she acknowledges. Two play areas for children have been retained and as in previous years, there is no need to call for a table, the establishment does not take any reservations.

Chez Pierrot, 21 rue de Mader in Vinassan, open every evening from 7 p.m. until September 4. Last service at 11 p.m. The restaurant is open for lunch only on Sundays and public holidays.
