What do the most expensive fries in the world look like?

$200 for fries

The secret of good Belgian fries lies in the double cooking, but also in the type of potatoes cooked. With us, you don’t need to pay a fortune to taste the best fries in the most famous fritkots in the capital. But if you really want to break the bank, head to New York. The Serendipity 3 restaurant on the Upper East Side offers a fries recipe at a maddening price, to the point of appearing in the famous Guinness Book of Records.

The video of the day :

The price of a serving? $200. To justify such a price, the address does not simply serve its fries with salt and Ketchup as traditionally, but champagne (Com Perignon), Champagne-Ardenne vinegar, goose fat from France, Guérande salt, Pecorino cheese and truffles in all their forms: Italian black truffles, truffle oil and truffled Gruyère. And to top it all off, this exorbitantly priced dish called “Crème de la Crème” is served with… 23-carat edible gold powder. Of course, such fries are not presented in a cardboard tray, but in a pretty Baccarat crystal service. Just that.

Not the restaurant’s first record

When Chef Frederick Schoen-Kiewert is asked about the calorie count of a single serving of these Champagne and Gold Fries, he directly pleads the Fifth Amendment. Fortunately for the line, due to supply, the famous “Crème de la Crème” fries are not always on the menu. They only come out on certain occasions, such as International French Fries Day, or when a star decides to drop by the address to taste them. Among the very important people to have already visited Serendipity 3, we can mention Cher, Beyoncé, or Kim Kardashian.

This is not the first record for this famous Manhattan address whose prices are, unsurprisingly, not indicated on the menu. The “Golden Opulence” sundae is sold for nearly $1,000 while the “Extravagant” burger is around $300. For a “Luxe” milkshake, count about 85 dollars and more than 70 dollars for a hot dog with foie gras and truffles. Thanks to these buzz shots, the restaurant has become one of the most desirable in New York, with queues sometimes lasting up to 10 weeks.
