Donald Trump has no intention of returning to Twitter if his account is unblocked by Elon Musk. The former president prefers to continue supporting his own platform.
Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter, many Donald Trump advocates have dreamed of his return to the platform. Fervent activist of freedom of expression, the new boss of the social network has always opposed to permanent eviction of the former president. Prior to the takeover, he felt that it was ” of a mistake, because it alienated much of the country and ultimately did not stop Donald Trump from being heard “.
After the acquisition, Elon Musk pledged to reactivate some banned accounts for “ trivial and dubious reasons”. Unblocking should not take place for several weeks. The richest man in the world assured that a ” clear process will be in place before Twitter allows an excluded user to return to the platform. However, the Tesla boss has never officially announced his intention to unblock Donald Trump.

Donald Trump wants to stick with Truth Social
Either way, the Republican is unwilling to make a comeback on Twitter. According to our colleagues from the Washington Post, Donald Trump warned some of his allies that he was not not ready to return to the platform, even if Elon Musk unblocks his account. The 45ᵉ president of the United States explains that he wants to continue to support Truth Social, his own social network. He specifies that he refuses that a site so closely associated with its brand is collapsing”.
Launched in late 2021, Truth Social was designed as an alternative to Twitter. The social network is distinguished by a reduced moderation and the presence of many supporters of Donald Trump. Only available on iOS since its inception, the platform was finally accepted on the Play Store, Google’s Android app store, last month.
So far, the Truth Social is exclusively available in the United States. The social network has less than 1.7 million unique visitors per month, compared to 184 million for Twitter, report analysts from Similarweb.
Excluded from most social networks in January 2021, Donald Trump was only followed by a tiny part of its subscribers on TruthSocial. On the platform, the businessman has only 4.18 million subscribers. Before his ousting last year, Donald Trump was followed by 88.8 million Internet users on Twitter.
This is far from the first time that Donald Trump has refused to consider a return to Twitter. On several occasions, the real estate mogul has nipped rumors in the bud. The day after Elon Musk’s takeover, the former president told Fox News bluntly:
“I’m staying on Truth. I like it better, I like the way it works, I like Elon, but I’m sticking with Truth.”
At the same time, Donald Trump says he is very happy that the boss of Tesla has taken over the social network. In a post on his Truth account, he says:
“I’m very happy that Twitter is now in good hands, and no longer run by radical left crazies and maniacs who really hate our country.”
